After the centre's opening in after which it was known as Wrest Point Hotel Casino the casino provided a catalyst for the nation's casino industry, with 12 additional casinos opening across the country.
This included a second Federal Group casino in Tasmania, the Country Club Casino , which opened in Launceston in The building has been extended in recent years, including the conference centre which was opened in , and the boardwalk in In a 70 million dollar investment was announced, bringing five new dining outlets and more bars, a private VIP gaming room and a complete new contemporary feel across the entire casino.
While initially the hotel was supposed to be an entertainment complex, the casino soon took over much of the hotel; and, while the poker machines were initially not permitted, by executing successful lobbying, they now come to dominate the complex, with over machines.
The owners of the hotel and the poker machines, Federal Hotels, were fined on a number of occasions for poker machines that were not functioning as programmed, and were thus in breach of the law.
In , the building was protected with a heritage listing. In the election , the opposition leader, Rebecca White, promised to remove all pokies from pubs and clubs, leaving the two casinos as the only location for pokies in the state, citing the negative health and economic impacts of poker machines.

We were provided with a small tasting dish on the house which was like having a mini lamb roast We had the duck liver parfait delicious and Pork Belly.
The Prawns were good but a bit difficult to eat because the soup ended up on the table. For mains duck breast and gnocchi which was tasty and I loved the accompanying vegetables.
And flaming crepes suzette cooked at the table. Overall a really wonderful evening. Prices are The service was excellent - attentive, polite, pleasant - as always.
The views are excellent, despite the rain and clouds. We were disappointed to be seated right next to another table of two diners - who were loud and even made a phone call during Initially we were the only two tables of diners - I suspect diners are placed next to each other for ease of serving by staff, but when a place is half empty it would be great to have a buffer of space between diners.
Much better for the diners, and the diners surely are the most important people in a restaurant. For the first time ever in my experience the meals were disappointing.
We were there for lunch with some friends, and our first surprise was that it was a fixed menu. There were plenty of choices but I had not realised the menu was not a la carte.
I have a small appetite and could not do justice to two courses, let alone three, so much of my food was wasted - the servings were always generous.
The amuse-bouche was excellent - a great start. Entrees of quail, sashimi and goat's feta were all very good. For mains, apparently the duck that two of our party had was very good.
The disappointment was with the fish dish, blue eye trevalla. My experience with blue eye has always been excellent, but I found this dish close to inedible.
The assortment of flavours seemed disjointed and at odds with each other. Some flavour was tainting the fish, so instead of a delicate fish flesh we were confronted with a strange-tasting fish.
Had this been my first ever experience with blue eye I would never eat it again! Desserts chocolate tart, pavlova, cheese were mostly fully devoured, however I found the chocolate tart leaning too much to non-sweet.
The tart itself and the ice cream were tasty, but the coffee gel and two varieties of soil were bitter and not pleasant to my palate.
I was sorry that the meals for two of our group of four were less than satisfactory, especially given that I had recommended this restaurant as somewhere very special.
We might be back some day, but in future I think I'd prefer to stick to evening dining with the a la carte menu and not the fixed 2 or 3 course lunch menu.
My wife and I went for dinner for our wedding anniversary. The staff are very friendly and professional. The location is beautiful and the food is to die for.
Great view, excellent service, food good and well presented.
